• Typical Vacuum Pump and Compressor Repair Procedure
    • Liquid ring vacuum pumps and compressors of all sizes and makes can be completely remanufactured by Somarakis to OEM tolerances thereby restoring performance to "new" condition, including:  Somarakis, Nash, Siemens, Nash-elmo, Vooner, Bingham, Kinney, and Travaini to name a few.

  • Rotor Repair Procedure

Rotors are sandblasted to a white metal finish, cleaned and measured for conformity.  Normal repair consists of welding all worn surfaces of the rotor (usually the taper bores, blade tips, and end shrouds) utilizing a high nickel content (99% Ni) welding rod.  All surfaces are then re-machined to OEM tolerances.  If rotor is to be stainless steel clad then the end and center shrouds will be pre-machined prior to welding to accept a ring of 1/2" 304L or 316L stainless steel.  The wear rings will then be completely welded to the rotor shrouds using a continuous bead of high nickel content (99% Ni) welding rod.  All surfaces will then be machined to OEM tolerances.  All non-machined areas of the rotor will then be coated with a 2-part epoxy to protect against the effects of wear and corrosion.  If rotor is damaged beyond repair and requires replacement then a new Somarakis High Efficiency 20-Vane Rotor (interchangeable with many other makes and models) may be installed.

  • Body Repair Procedure

Pump bodies are sandblasted to a white metal finish, cleaned and measured for conformity.  Normal repair consists of welding all worn surfaces of the body (the worst wear tends to be located near the end flanges and center shroud) utilizing a high nickel content (99% Ni) welding rod.  All surfaces are then re-machined to OEM tolerances.  If the body is to be stainless steel clad then all applicable surfaces will be pre-machined prior to welding to accept a continuous ring of 1/4" 304L or 316L stainless steel.  The stainless steel body liner will then be applied to the inside of the body and mechanically fastened with 3/8" flat head counter sunk cap screws located no more than 12" apart.  Each fastener is then seal welded from the top in order to securely fasten the liner to the body.  In order to further reduce the risk of liner slippage during pump operation a proprietary 2-part epoxy is then injected under high pressure between the stainless steel liner and the pump body.  If clad, all inspection and drain holes will be fitted with a socket welded stainless steel half coupling to ensure that future access to pump internals will not be hindered by the stainless liner.  All surfaces will then be machined back to OEM tolerances and a 2-part epoxy applied in order to protect against the effects of wear and corrosion.  If body is damaged beyond repair and requires replacement then a new Somarakis Shrouded Body (interchangeable with many other makes and models) may be installed.

  • Cone Repair Procedure

Cones are sandblasted to a white metal finish, cleaned and measured for conformity.  Normal repair consists of welding all worn surfaces of the cone utilizing a high nickel content (99% Ni) welding rod.  All surfaces are then re-machined to OEM tolerances.  If the cone is to be stainless steel clad then all applicable surfaces will be pre-machined prior to welding to accept a continuous cone liner of 3/8" 304L or 316L stainless steel.  The stainless steel cone liner will then be mechanically fastened with 3/8" flat head counter sunk cap screws located no more than 6" apart.  Each fastener is then seal welded from the top in order to securely fasten the liner to the cone. All seams along the upper and lower diameter joints, as well as the inlet and outlet cone portal and liner joints, will be continuously welded to form a tight and secure fit.  All surfaces will then be machined to OEM tolerances and a 2-part epoxy applied to the internal passageways of each cone in order to protect against the effects of wear and corrosion.  If cone is damaged beyond repair and requires replacement then a new Somarakis Cone (interchangeable with many other makes and models) may be installed.

  • Head Repair Procedure

Pump heads are sandblasted to a white metal finish, cleaned and measured for conformity.  Normal repair consists of welding all worn surfaces of the head utilizing a high nickel content (99% Ni) welding rod.  All surfaces are then re-machined to OEM tolerances.  If the head is to be stainless steel clad then a small applicable surfaces will be pre-machined prior to welding to accept a 1/2" 304L or 316L stainless steel wear plate.  Each stainless steel wear plate will be mechanically fastened with 3/8" flat head counter sunk cap screws located no more than 6" apart.  Each fastener is then seal welded from the top in order to securely fasten the liner to the cone. All seams along the inner and outer diameters of the wear plate joint will be welded tight.  All surfaces will then be machined to OEM tolerances and a 2-part epoxy applied to the internal passageways of each head in order to protect against the effects of wear and corrosion.  If the head is damaged beyond repair and requires replacement then a new Somarakis Head with Removable Bearing Assemblies (interchangeable with many other makes and models) may be installed.

  • Shaft Repair Procedure

Shafts will be machined to ensure proper bearing fit, cleaned, and reused as is.  If chroming, stainless steel metalizing, or stainless steel shaft sleeves are required then the appropriate repairs will be made.  If shaft is damaged beyond repair then a new Somarakis Shaft (interchangeable with many other makes and models) may be installed.

  • Seal Conversion

If the customer's vacuum pump or compressor is other than a Somarakis, and it is desired by the customer to convert the pump from conventional packing to the patented Somarakis Vac-Seal, then Somarakis can perform the necessary modifications.  This unique sealing arrangement, which also includes Somarakis' patented Secondary Bearings, is a superior alternative to packing.  No one other than Somarakis can perform this conversion without license.

  • Assembly and Painting

Each remanufactured liquid ring vacuum pump or compressor is reassembled utilizing new OEM specified bearings, seals, shims, and gaskets.  Unless specified otherwise all pumps are painted Somarkis' standard Ultra Blue.

  • Performance Test and Warranty

Each and every liquid ring vacuum pump remanufactured by Somarakis is performance tested prior to shipment.  A copy of the certified performance test curve is available at time of shipment, and the original kept on permanent file at Somarakis for future reference.  All remanufactured pumps are furnished with a 3-year warranty and 18-month performance guarantee (performance is guaranteed to be within 5% of new operating condition for both capacity and horsepower).
